What Will it Look Like 50 Years from Now?

by Byron on March 12, 2015

Hey Guys,

Something important to consider, if only every now and again, is what’s it all going to look like in the future.  What will peering in on the present 10, 25, or 50 years from now look like.

I know that this blog will look like:

  1. You were born
  2. You’re so tiny
  3. This is so hard
  4. You’re so amazing
  5. You’re crawling and sitting
  6. Walking and talking
  7. Going to school

In between, there are experiences and lessons, but read 25 years from now, it’ll be a series of blog posts that won’t even take an afternoon to read.  They say, doesn’t it all go by in a blink.  Reflecting on history, sure.  It all went by in a blink.  That’s why trying to imagine what the future will tell us about the present helps us observe the present.  I know it all goes by in a blink.  And I know that means those experiences and lessons in between are so important.

I also know that you never remember life in its entirety.  Life doesn’t work that way.  You remember thoughts and feelings and looks and people.  You remember the way you felt.  Sometimes you get to remember the way you made someone else feel.

It might be why you don’t remember things from when you are little.  For instance, last night Decker, you lost your mind because you couldn’t sit on the counter while brushing your teeth.  If you had to remember it, you might remember it as trauma.  And last night, it was very real to you.  But, of course, by the time you are able to read this, you will think it’s silly.  I cried because I couldn’t sit on the counter for one minute?  Huh?  That’s ridiculous.

The important thing, I think, guys, is this: our memories are a function of our perceptions.  Our perceptions are a function of our attitude and outlook.

“We don’t see things as they are, we see things as we are.” -Anais Nin

I love you guys sooo much.

Dad
