What I thought this blog was about…

by Byron on October 17, 2011

WHEN I STARTED THIS BLOG, THIS IS WHAT I THOUGHT IT WAS ABOUT, AND, CONSEQUENTLY, WROTE IN THE ABOUT PAGE…

By and large, this blog is about markets.  I am, after all, a US based manager of money.  But the blog is also about companies, economics, and evolution.  It’s about understanding where we’re heading.  If we understand where we are heading, we don’t need to be afraid.  If we are unafraid, we can do what is best.  What is best for ourselves, our families, those around us, and the universe as a whole.  Please feel free to provide feedback.

I do not reveal myself or my firm for one simple reason.  I would likely lose my job.  Nothing on here is approved by my firm’s compliance department.  I am not bigger than my firm, nor do I pretend to be.

I publish this blog because I provide one additional avenue of insight about what’s coming.  We’re all trying to figure out what’s coming.  We have been since the beginning of time.  It’s how we kept ourselves alive.  The man who knew where the herd would be was able to feed his tribe for the winter.  The hedge fund manager who saw subprime fed his family for ten generations.

I used to think it was money that motivated me to want to see the future.  Now I know it’s evolution.  I want to be part of the evolving solution.

The more we understand, the less we need to fear.  Earthquakes used to frighten people to death.  Now we know they’re shifting earth.  We used to think the business cycle was dead.  Now we know fear and greed fight through economic modeling.

But in the end, we do not know for certain all of the time.  It’s just not our calling.  At least not here, not now.  Some faith, as ever, is required.

I wish you the best in everything.

NOW I REALIZE I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IT’S ABOUT

Update from 11/4/11 – It’s about doing the best you can for your family, your clients, and yourself.  The blog helps with that.
